About the Tenkile Conservation Alliance
The Tenkile Conservation Alliance (TCA) was established in Papua New Guinea (PNG) as a non-government organisation (NGO) in 2001. Principally established to save the Critically Endangered (CR) Tenkile Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus scottae) from being hunted to extinction, the TCA have developed their conservation model to address everything required to keep the unique Torricelli Mountain Range protected. NB: The TMR is north-west PNG.
Torricelli Mountain Range
Working with the PNG Government & the United Nations, TCA is establishing the Torricelli’s as a Conservation Area – where it protects nearly 40% of PNG’s mammals & over 50% of PNG’s birds. The Torricelli Mountain Range is the only place where three species of tree kangaroos co-exist: the Tenkile, the Weimang (Dendrolagus pulcherrimus – also Critically Endangered – CR) & the Grizzled Tree Kangaroo (D.inustus – classified as Vulnerable – VU).
TCA works with 50 villages, ~13,000 people, who protect their tree kangaroos & primary tropical rainforest. Based in the remote area of Lumi in Sandaun Province, PNG, TCA employs & capacity builds many people from the area to manage the Torricelli Mountain Range. Since its’ inception, TCA has observed a recovery of many species – principally the Tenkile increasing from estimated numbers, via Sampling research, of ~100 in 1996 to ~320+ in 2015.
Since 2016, TCA has also become established in Australia as a charity – so as to increase sustainability & access to funding.
TCA is effectively preserving nearly 1% of the remaining primary tropical rainforest in the world. We need your help to keep going at our present level & to grow. Please visit our website www.tenkile.com & look out for our documentary www.intothejungle.net NB: All donations within Australia are tax deductible.

It is hoped that T4W can be established such that no one can say “I am concerned about wildlife and the environment but I am only one person, what can I do?”. The analogy suitable for T4W is towards an avalanche of help for wildlife.
The early members will act as if to throw $10 stones on a mountain side. As they aggregate, eventually a trickle will form, then a stream and later a cascade. With good fortune, intentions and actions, an avalanche of help for wildlife will form as long as we have the collective will to make it happen. By many people coming together we should indeed make it happen.
We hope with in the Yarra Valley a good number of businesses will join on condition they provide discounts for members of T4W. This could make it an economic advantage to be a member of T4W.
